Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding may have been straight out a fairy tale, but let's not forget that none of it would have been possible without Queen Elizabeth II's written approval. Because of the Royal Marriages Act 1772, the reigning monarch is required to give formal consent to any family marriages, but can also veto them if they could potentially "diminish the status of the royal house."
