5 Things to Know About Queens Star Pepi Sonuga, aka Lil Muffin

ABC's new series Queens follows the fictional '90s girl group Nasty B*tches as they get back together 20 years after they were at the peak of their career. Members Briana, aka Professor Sex (Eve); Valeria, aka Butter Pecan (Nadine Velazquez); Jill, aka Da Thrill (Naturi Naughton); and Naomi, aka Xplicit Lyrics (Brandy) reunite and end up mentoring Lauren Rice, aka Lil Muffin (Pepi Sonuga), a young rapper being exploited by the industry as she battles addiction. Lil Muffin needs the Nasty B*tches as a cosign for her craft and they need her to gain a younger audience for their comeback. While Eve, Brandy, Naturi, and Nadine are household names, Pepi is an actress and singer that should also be on your radar.

Pepi was born on Sept. 8, 1993, making her a 28-year-old Virgo.

2. Pepi Sonuga Is From Lagos, Nigeria

The actress and singer was born in Lagos, Nigeria to parents from rivaling tribes Yoruba and Igbo. She later moved to Los Angeles at age 10 to pursue her acting career. During an appearance on The Real in 2017, she shared that when she was younger she tried hard to assimilate. As she's embraced herself, Pepi told The Real hosts, "I've never not been proud of myself or my culture, but now it's like, I'm ready to hold that flag."

In her role on Famous in Love, she plays a famous pop star trying to make her mark, similar to Lil Muffin on Queens. Pepi's concentration is mainly on acting, but she told KTLA in 2017 that "destiny" was pushing her into singing and her role in Famous in Love allowed her to do something she "really loves" but wasn't "ready to commit to."

Pepi was crowned Miss Jr. Teen Los Angeles in 2009 when she was just 15 years old.
