The BBC's explosive Sunday night series Bodyguard is the most popular British drama in over a decade [1], and it's not hard to see why. Written by Line of Duty [2] creator Jed Mercurio and starring Keeley Hawes and Richard Madden as the UK Home Secretary and the man charged with protecting her, it's an edge-of-the-seat thriller that constantly keeps viewers guessing. Richard Madden as Sergeant David Budd

Playing Robb Stark in Game of Thrones kicked Scottish heartthrob [5] Madden's career into high gear, and since then, he's portrayed Prince Kit in Disney's live-action Cinderella, sexy gardener Mellors in Lady Chatterley's Lover, and DJ Leo in Netflix movie Ibiza.

Gina McKee as Commander Anne Sampson

You'll recognise McKee from Notting Hill and Phantom Thread, but the BAFTA-winner is better known for TV, including Our Friends in the North, Brass Eye, The Borgias, Missing, Hebburn, and the first season of Line of Duty.

Sophie Rundle as Vicky Budd

Rundle is doing double-duty as David Budd's estranged wife on Bodyguard and Alice Kett on Sky One's Jamestown. She was previously seen on Peaky Blinders [6] as Ada Shelby, The Bletchley Circle, and the sitcom Episodes.

Vincent Franklin as Mike Travis

One of Franklin's most memorable roles was buzzword-obsessed Stewart Pearson in The Thick of It but you might also remember him from Cucumber,Banana, Happy Valley, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, or Decline and Fall.

Nina Toussaint-White as Detective Sergeant Louise Rayburn

Chances are you recognise Toussaint-White from her recent role as Angie Bailey in Emmerdale or as nurse Syd Chambers inEastendersin 2009. She's also appeared in Casualty, The Bill, Holby City, and Doctor Who.

Stephanie Hyam as Chanel Dyson

She's Julia Montague's PR adviser in Bodyguard, but you might have also spotted Hyam in Jekyll and Hyde, Peaky Blinders, or 2016 World War II comedy-drama Their Finest, as one of the stars of the propaganda film-within-the-film.

Stuart Bowman as Stephen Hunter-Dunn

You probably recognise Bowman from his recent role as Bontemps in Versailles, but he's also starred in Musketeers, Doctors, and the 2015 film Sunset Song, among others.

Matt Stokoe as Luke Aitkens

You can't say Stokoe doesn't have range: he played Alex in Misfits, Captain Marcheaux in The Musketeers, and like his Bodyguard co-star Sophie Rundle, is now starring in Jamestown, where he portrays blacksmith James Read.

Pippa Haywood as Chief Superintendent Lorraine Craddock

A comic actress who cut her teeth on The Brittas Empire and Green Wing, Haywood is equally convincing in dramatic roles, including Harriet in Prisoners' Wives and Detective Superintendent Julie Dodson in Scott and Bailey.

Nicholas Gleaves as The Right Honourable Roger Penhaligon

Gleaves is best known as DS Andy Roper in Scott and Bailey, but he briefly appeared in the Cold Feet reboot and has popped up in most crime dramas, from The Inspector Lynley Mysteries to Vera.
