Just when we thought the Downton Abbey [1] film was never going to happen, the big screen adaptation of the popular period series [2] was officially given the green light in June 2017. Now, we have our first look at what's sure to be a stunning feature [3].
The period drama ended its sixth season in 2015, and ever since, the production team behind the show had been hinting that a feature film would eventually make its way to screens. Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, and a handful of others are set to reprise their roles as members of the Crawley family [4]. Although we don't see any of the principal cast in the brief teaser trailer, above, we do catch a glimpse of the sprawling Crawley residence, an unidentified man riding a motorcycle up to the home, the house keepers milling about outside, and a parade presumably celebrating war heroes.
It's not much to go on, but since the film doesn't hit cinemas until September 2019 [5], we have plenty of time to theorise.
