Sky just released the first trailer for The New Pope, which has been created in collaboration with HBO and Canal+, and we're not sure if we've been blessed or cursed. The mysterious follow-up to the Jude Law-led series The Young Pope [1] follows Law's Lenny Belardo — aka Pius XIII — who is ending his time as pope for unknown reasons. Considering how very unpope-like Lenny was, it's probably something along the lines of him being ousted. Taking over for the young Lenny is John Malkovich [2], whose character we haven't properly met but have a feeling he wouldn't approve of Lenny's lite-brite Speedo. (But damn, did playing Albus Dumbledore [3] do Law's body good. Almost godly. Sorry.)

The upcoming nine-episode season is still a mystery to viewers, but showrunner Paolo Sorrentino has teased that he's still exploring "the world of the modern papacy." [4] Silvio Orlando will return as Cardinal Angelo Voiello, with Sharon Stone and Marilyn Manson [5] joining in supporting roles. Yes, the Marilyn Manson. This season is going to be so ridiculously sacrilegious [6], we can't wait for the memes!

The first season titled The Young Pope is currently available on Amazon Prime in the UK, and while we don't have a confirmed premiere date for this instalment from Sky, you better believe we'll update you when we do.
