The New Pope Series Trailer

The New Pope Trailer Tells Us Nothing, but It Has Jude Law in a Speedo, So We're Good

Sky just released the first trailer for The New Pope, which has been created in collaboration with HBO and Canal+, and we're not sure if we've been blessed or cursed. The mysterious follow-up to the Jude Law-led series The Young Pope follows Law's Lenny Belardo — aka Pius XIII — who is ending his time as pope for unknown reasons. Considering how very unpope-like Lenny was, it's probably something along the lines of him being ousted. Taking over for the young Lenny is John Malkovich, whose character we haven't properly met but have a feeling he wouldn't approve of Lenny's lite-brite Speedo. (But damn, did playing Albus Dumbledore do Law's body good. Almost godly. Sorry.)

The upcoming nine-episode season is still a mystery to viewers, but showrunner Paolo Sorrentino has teased that he's still exploring "the world of the modern papacy." Silvio Orlando will return as Cardinal Angelo Voiello, with Sharon Stone and Marilyn Manson joining in supporting roles. Yes, the Marilyn Manson. This season is going to be so ridiculously sacrilegious, we can't wait for the memes!

The first season titled The Young Pope is currently available on Amazon Prime in the UK, and while we don't have a confirmed premiere date for this instalment from Sky, you better believe we'll update you when we do.
