Sandra Oh [1] just made Emmy awards history [2]. On Thursday morning, the actress became the first Asian actor to be nominated for the Best Actress in a Drama category for her role as MI6 agent Eve Polastri on BBC America's Killing Eve [3].
This is Oh's first lead role nomination, though she received five Best Supporting Actress nominations during her 10-year run as Dr. Christina Yang [4] on the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy [5]. In the 70 years since the Emmy Awards began, Oh, who is Korean-Canadian, is the first person of Asian descent to be nominated in the category. She is nominated alongside Elisabeth Moss [6] for The Handmaid's Tale [7], Claire Foy for The Crown, Keri Russell [8] for The Americans, Evan Rachel Wood for Westworld, and Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black.
If you haven't yet basked in the glory of Killing Eve, it's an amazing mystery drama [9] that sees Oh's titular Eve becoming obsessed with the dangerous female assassin (The White Princess's Jodie Comer) she's tasked with hunting down. The show has already been renewed [10] for season two, so watch the first season on BBC America [11] before the Emmys air on Sept. 17!
