If you've been patiently waiting for new details of the Spider-Man: Homecoming [1] sequel, we have good news for you. The reboot of the beloved film franchise took audiences (myself included) by surprise at how well it turned out (Side note: we'll never forget you, Tobey Maguire [2]!) But after the devastating events that unfold [3] in Avengers: Infinity War, many fans were left wondering what the future holds for our favourite web-slinger.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel to Homecoming will "deal with the fallout [4]" from Thanos's destruction [5], so basically, get your tear ducts ready! If that weren't enough to keep you on the edge of your seats, we have even more juicy details about the sequel, including the title, who's playing the villain, and the release date, for you to sip on ahead.

The Title

Tom Holland [6], who's notorious for accidentally revealing MCU-related spoilers [7], had some fun with his reputation when he announced the sequel's title. On June 23, the 22-year-old took to Instagram to share that he finally got his hands on a script for the film. Although he apologised to fans for not having any other "real revelations coming," Holland quickly flashed an iPad screen which revealed the next instalment will be titled Spider-Man: Far From Home. Nicely done!

The Villain

In May, there were reports that Jake Gyllenhaal was in talks to play Mysterio [8], a classic nemesis who faces off with Peter Parker in the comics. Now, it appears Gyllenhaal has sealed the deal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is set to star as the notorious villain [9] in the Spider-Man sequel.

The Rest of the Cast

According to IMDb [10], Zendaya [11], Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, and Jacob Batalon will reprise their roles as MJ, May Parker, Vulture, and Ned. We wonder if Keaton's Vulture [12] will team up with Gyllenhaal's Mysterio. Our bets are on yes!

The Director

Jon Watts, who helmed 2015's Homecoming, will return to the director's chair for Far From Home.

The Release Date

Spider-Man: Far From Home is expected to hit theatres on July 5, 2019.
