Beyoncé had the Beyhive buzzing with joy on Sunday after Disney revealed the official trailer for her forthcoming visual album, Black Is King. The clip features a montage of odes to African culture as the "Black Parade" singer declares, "Life is a set of choices: lead or be led astray, follow your light or lose it." The video also includes cameos from Kelly Rowland and JAY-Z, as well as Naomi Campbell and Lupita Nyong'o, who are mentioned in Beyoncé's song "Brown Skin Girl."
The trailer came three weeks after Bey first announced the visual record with a one-minute teaser. The project is based on the music from Bey's 2019 LP The Lion King: The Gift, which she dropped in conjunction with the release of Disney's The Lion King, a live-action remake of the 1994 animated hit of the same name. In the 2019 film, the songstress voices the fierce Nala alongside Donald Glover's Simba.
"Black Is King is a celebratory memoir for the world on the Black experience," Disney and Beyoncé's Parkwood Entertainment said in a statement. "The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future." The project — written, directed, and executive produced by Bey — will premiere on Disney+ on July 31.
