Christmas TV Specials for 2023

The 2023 Christmas TV Specials We Are Adding to Our Must-Watch List So Far

Christmas TV is a staple for December, just like Michael Bublé on repeat, mince pies for breakfast, and Advent calendars to help you countdown to the big day. Every year, TV channels and streaming platforms create festive specials and one-off shows to keep us entertained over Christmas, starting at the beginning of party season and taking us right through to January.

While we've had some of the best Christmas episodes and specials over the years ("Gavin and Stacey"'s bombshell engagement springs to mind), we are expecting a whole new batch of Christmas TV specials to enjoy this year. Of course, you're also likely to intersperse your TV viewing with some of the best Christmas films on Netflix or celebrating the 20th anniversary of "Love Actually" by rewatching it for the one hundredth time, but you can also brighten your Christmas nights with some original TV viewing.

From Hannah Waddingham's musical extravaganza to the star-studded cast of the festive animation "Mog's Christmas", read ahead to find our picks of Christmas TV for 2023 so far.

Christmas TV 2023: "Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas"

If there is anyone who has reached icon status in 2023, it's Hannah Waddingham. The "Ted Lasso" star not only wowed us when playing the tough but heartwarming Rebecca Welton in the Apple TV+ series, but gained legions more fans when presenting Eurovision 2023. Showcasing her singing abilities and her fluent French, Waddingham wore an incredible array of outfits and stole the Eurovision show.

And the star is hosting her very own festive show, "Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas". With a host of special guests joining her on stage at the London Coliseum, she will be getting us in the mood for Christmas in this musical spectacular.

"Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas" will be available on Apple TV+ from 22 November.

Christmas TV 2023: "Mog’s Christmas"

Judith Kerr's beloved tales about Mog, her family cat, have been made into a hand-drawn animated show for Christmas. In honour of the 100th anniversary of Kerr's birth, the heart-warming episode comes with a star-studded cast. Narrated by Adjoa Andoh ("Bridgeton"), the Christmas TV special also includes Claire Foy ("The Crown"), Benedict Cumberbatch ("Doctor Strange"), and Miriam Margolyes ("Call the Midwife") as Mog gets frightened by the Christmas decorations and embarks on a Christmas-themed dream.

"Mog's Christmas" will air on Channel 4, with a launch date TBC.
