Grey's Anatomy: Watch Andrew DeLuca's Best Moments

Let's Revisit the 12 Best Andrew DeLuca Moments on Grey's Anatomy

Well, what's new? Grey's Anatomy has, once again, emotionally eviscerated us after writing off yet another beloved character: Andrew DeLuca. Just when Derek Shepherd passes away, Andrew, a former EMT, waltzes into our lives in season 11 as a studly young intern trying to make his mark at Grey Sloan. He goes through some immature years, but he later emerges as a kind and generous man who genuinely loves Meredith Grey (to the point of risking his own career). Just as his character starts showing serious growth, Grey's pulls a Grey's, and now we're destined to only see him in Teddy Altman's hallucinations.

Anyway, we felt it appropriate to pay an homage to all the good work that the excellent Giacomo Gianniotti has put into this character. So without further ado, let's revisit the best Andrew DeLuca moments on Grey's over the years!

Alex Karev exhibits so much character growth during his time on the show, but we have to admit that he has some really rough and nearly irredeemable moments, including the time he assaults Andrew. While Andrew forgives him, he still firmly asserts how he felt about Alex poorly handling the situation, reminding us that he's not just an intern to toss around.

We love an Andrew and Carina moment! By season 14, Andrew ends up being roomies with Arizona. One day, he's just minding his own business going home and realises that his sister Carina is knocking boots with his boss at work. Arizona confusingly staring at them while they fight in Italian is totally us!

After Sam Bello leaves the country, we get a dose of heartbroken Andrew, who becomes a big old mess. But he brings much-welcomed comic relief to the show as he crashes on Mer's couch, strumming his guitar incoherently and forgoing baths altogether.

"This is not a seduction." This MerLuca moment is a gem! Andrew's still mopey about Sam's departure, and Meredith tries to put some sense back into him — suffice to say, he's a little confused.

We appreciate a good thirst trap moment on the show! Honestly, who wouldn't swoon over an Adonis-like man with perfectly tousled hair riding up to work in a motorcycle? It's not a particularly deep moment, but it's still a memorable Andrew scene nonetheless!

You don't have to be Team MerLuca to feel the tingles when Andrew and Meredith flirt in Italian in the lift. The soft, hushed tones and semi-forbidden love will remind you of classic Grey's even 15 seasons in!

Andrew helps Zola with her wings for her costume, but she becomes upset about it because Derek used to sew them up for her. He proceeds to tell her stories about Derek and how she'll never forget him — I'm not crying, you're crying! Anyway, it just goes to show how much he cares about Meredith's family. (Insert ten pleading face emojis here.)

We really have to give props to Gianniotti for nailing this emotionally intense scene. Andrew has a breakdown and accuses Opal of human trafficking, which really scares the staff. He turns out to be right, but it's clear that he's not OK and needs help.

Andrew reaches another emotional breaking point by the end of season 16, but his dedication to saving lives never wavers. He realises that Richard probably has cobalt poisoning and more or less saves his life by interrupting Bailey's surgery, albeit with a rather abrupt tool-throwing moment.

Here's one of the moments that proves Andrew's character growth on the show. After getting help, Andrew seems calm and grounded here, ready to repair his friendship with Meredith. He's sleeping and going to therapy, even advising Meredith to get rest herself. Bless his heart.

We might refuse to acknowledge that it happened, but yes, Andrew dies after getting stabbed. While Meredith is still in a coma, she does see him in her dream-like state at the beach. Meredith admits to him that she'll miss him if she comes back and he doesn't. Andrew, being the reassuring ex that he is, reassures her that it'll be OK. He tells her that he has to go, and runs along the shoreline towards his mother. Was it the ideal ending? No, but it's as beautiful an ending as you'll get with a Grey's Anatomy death
.

Grey's Anatomy doesn't often give us big tributes for the characters it writes off, but we actually get a pretty sweet postmortem moment here where the staff gathers outside for Andrew's memorial. We even get a snippet of Andrew's interview to work with Grey Sloan, where he promises to give the very best of himself to the hospital.
