Jimin's Face Album: Release Date, Pre-Order, Performances

Big Hit Announces Jimin's Debut Solo Album Title and Release Date

After nearly a year of waiting, fans can finally stop calling Jimin's highly-anticipated solo album "PJM1." In a 21 Feb. statement posted on Weverse, Big Hit revealed Jimin's album title is "Face" and teased that there are already a load of promotional activities planned leading up to its release.

Jimin kept much of his solo plans close to his chest leading up to February 2023, apart from letting fans know he's "working" on it on multiple occasions and dropping "Vibe," a collaboration with Big Bang's Taeyang.

Jimin gave insight into what it's been like recording an album on his own for the first time in a January 2022 interview with W Korea. "So many things are different," he said. "Since I am working alone, it makes me think a lot, which makes outcomes slower. When I work with the members, we talk about lots of things and clear them quickly. I think the problem is doing it for the first time. Since I am working on an album like this for the first time, 'Can it be released like this?' I am having lots of thoughts like that, which makes me modify more and do it over."

There aren't many more details about Jimin's album beyond the title and official release date, but fans have put a lot together for themselves. Korean media outlets are reporting that Jimin has some exciting performances planned. Meanwhile, he's teased that he's working with some big-name producers, while J-Hope may have revealed a potential collab with Justin Bieber in the works.

Ahead, read everything to know about Jimin's solo album, "Face," from the March release date and the title's meaning to its concept.

Jimin's "Face" Album Release Date

On 21 Feb., Big Hit announced through Weverse that "Face" will release on 24 March, with pre-orders for the album opening on 22 Feb. at 11 am KST (that's 22 Feb. at 2 am GMT).

Jimin's "Face" Album Title Meaning

In Big Hit's official announcement, they shared that Jimin's debut solo album's title is "Face," adding that the album "is all about Jimin facing himself head-on as he gets ready for his next step as a solo artist."

Jimin's "Face" Album Concept

On 21 Feb., Big Hit teased the final concept of Jimin's solo album on its Instagram Stories, writing, "Circle of Resonance. Reflection of vulnerable minds and unexposed wounds. Waves originated from the deepest invisible inner world, pass through the face on the surface and reach others to resonate while transmitting the inner voice. Wave spreads beautifully, finding its own flow despite wounds and distortions from a smallest scratch. The face of unwavering effort despite repeated falls and pain."

Previously in a January 2023 Q&A with W Korea for his February 2023 cover issue, Jimin gave more insight into the concept of his solo album. "It's not something grand or huge," he shared. "Since I am working alone for the first time on an album, I feel a lot of pressure . . . As I experienced the past two years, I put my feelings and thoughts in the album chronologically. It's an album that I can look back on myself, I think? I would like you to think like that."

In a June 2022 Weverse Magazine interview, Jimin revealed what kind of vibes fans can expect from the album. "Maybe I can be just a little more explicit," Jimin said in Korean. "I just think I can show something a little more raw about me. That might include a more mature side, too, but what I'm really interested in is showing something closer to my real, personal rawness directly in a format like music or music videos. By doing so, I think maybe I can show something I never have before."

While Jimin stressed that his thoughts and feelings are expressed well through BTS's group work, his solo album will allow him to get even more honest with his music. "Like, something that shows the things I usually think about a little more honestly?" he said. "You know, some of the older members have already dealt with some darker material on their solo mixtapes. I think I'm trying to do something similar."

His album will explore the emotions he experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic as well. "I'm doing this more for my own sake than because I want to say something to other people," he explained. "Because after a year and a half of the pandemic, I was thinking a lot about how I was a little lost. Once the other members found out about that, they said, 'Why don't you try to make it into music?' And that made me decide I should try and talk about it in my music."

While performances on Korean music shows like "Inkigayo," "Music Bank," "M Countdown," "Music Core," and more were a regular occurrence when BTS was promoting their music as a group, neither J-Hope nor RM performed on those stages for their album promotions. Thus, fans didn't expect to see those appearances from Jimin either. That may not be the case, however.

On 11 Feb., Korean news outlet Star News reported that Big Hit is in talks with various music shows about Jimin performing two songs as part of his promotional tour. However, the music company has not yet confirmed the performance plans.

In Big Hit's official Weverse statement announcing the album on 21 Feb., they shared that "Jimin will see the fans through various activities including the 'FACE' release, so we ask for your continued interest and support for Jimin's first official solo activity."

It's unclear if Jimin will go on tour for his debut album, but some fans think he may have teased the possibility in a Weverse livestream filmed on 3 Feb.

According to a translation by @BTSintheMoment, while discussing the progress of his album, Jimin said, "It isn't completely ready, but it is quite ready. So I wanted to tell you it won't be long. I am also preparing hard so that I can do something and have fun with you all."

Jimin often refers to performing for his fans as having fun with ARMYs, and considering the international makeup of the fans watching his livestream, many took this as a hint he could have plans to take his debut album on the road.

In J-Hope's 18 Feb. livestream, while chatting, J-Hope teased Jimin saying, "I hear you're studying English hard these days?" according to a translation by @bora_twts. Jimin responded, "That's a secret . . . Didn't I say it was a secret? I was gonna say something when my level was better." While this wouldn't be the first time BTS members talked about studying English, they often talk about increasing their studies when they're preparing to do promotions in the U.S., which could also hint at Jimin touring and promoting in English-speaking countries.

It's important to note neither J-Hope nor RM, who released their solo albums in July 2022 and December 2022, respectively, went on tour. So, there's a chance Jimin could simply be planning a similar rollout as his bandmates: performing a few concerts and/or festivals, but not a full-blown tour. Jimin could also have been referring to his reported performances being planned for music shows. Still, Suga recently announced his "Agust D" tour, so touring definitely isn't out of the question.

While BTS can stand on their own, fans love some good ol' collaboration speculation, and there's plenty of it when it comes to "PJM1."

Will There Be a Jimin and Justin Bieber Collaboration Song on Jimin's Solo Album?

Fans of BTS have been itching for Justin Bieber to collab with the group for forever, but ever since Bieber became a HYBE artist, they've felt the chances of a collab are even higher. Adding to the speculation is the fact that popular gossip site Deuxmoi recently shared a blind item that teased Bieber could soon collab with a major K-Pop group. Later, on 18 Feb., 2023, Jimin crashed J-Hope's birthday Weverse Livestream. After wishing Hobi a happy birthday, the pair naturally started conversing about their projects, including Jimin's solo album. At one point, J-Hope pointed at Jimin while singing Justin Bieber's "Baby," which has some fans thinking Jimin may be working on a collab with the "Ghost" singer.

Will There Be a Jimin and Khalid Collaboration Song on Jimin's Solo Album?

On 16 July, 2022, Khalid posted a video revealing a snippet of a new song he was working on and captioned the Instagram, "It's been a minute since I've posted a snippet! Just made this one last night 🌙 who should collab with on this one? Let me know in the comments!" ARMYs immediately flooded the comments section with Jimin's name, considering Khalid is a big fan of his song "Serendipity" and has teased a BTS collab in the past that never came to fruition. Additionally, fans speculated the moon emoji could represent Jimin because he has a moon tattoo on the back of his neck.

Will There Be a Jimin and Drake Collaboration Song on Jimin's Solo Album?

Jimin famously set the record for the most-streamed song on SoundCloud in the first 24 hours with his 2018 solo song "Promise," beating out megastar Drake and his single "Duppy Freestyle." Ever since, fans have been begging for the two stars to collab. Fans have noticed many of TBHits's posts on Instagram have featured Champagne glasses ever since he revealed he's working with Jimin. Considering Drake goes by @champagnepapi on Instagram and Hill has worked with Drake in the past, many fans believe they've connected the dots on a Jimin and Drake collaboration.

After releasing his first OST, "With You," on 24 June, 2022, Jimin revealed to Weverse Magazine in a June 2022 interview that he was working with producers on more music. "I decided to just keep going straight through, staying together with the producers," he said. "I think we'll basically always be together for around a month. We met a few times and were talking about what messages and what kind of appearance or image I want to get across."

While Jimin didn't get specific, it's safe to say he'll continue to work with longtime Big Hit producers Pdogg, Slow Rabbit, and Ghostloop. Pdogg, in particular, has played a key role in producing BTS's albums since their debut in 2013. Jimin is seemingly working with producers outside his label too, though.

On 9 Aug., 2022, producer TBHits (aka Tommy Brown) shared a photo featuring himself, Jimin, Pdogg, and Ghostloop in the recording studio, suggesting the Grammy-nominated producer behind many pop and R&B hits will produce a song (or songs?) on the album. TBHits has coproduced countless songs for Ariana Grande, having worked with her since her "Yours Truly" era. But their most recent hits together were "7 Rings" and "Positions," both of which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. He also coproduced Justin Bieber's "Holy," as well as music for The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, Juice Wrld, and Black Eyed Peas. "Great times with my brothers 🥂 Jimin is amazing," TBHits wrote on Instagram.

Additionally, Mr. Franks (aka Steven Franks), who's also produced for Grande, and producer/singer-songwriter Taylor Hill, who cowrote Summer Walker's "Circus," were also on site. Hill posted the same photo with Jimin as TBHits, captioning it, "What happened today was legendary."

Jimin may also be working with Max on solo music. On 19 Oct., 2022, the singer and producer shared a photo showing himself and Jimin in a studio, writing on Instagram, "Was an honour to hang out in the studio with these legends. Thank you to Jimin, Pdogg, and the whole team for the kindness and hospitality."

Of course, ARMYs shouldn't be surprised if they see Jimin's name on the producers list when his album comes out. After all, he wrote and produced "Friends," a subunit song he performed with V, off "Map of the Soul: 7," which was later featured in Marvel's "Eternals."

Big Hit has not yet announced the details of the physical rollout for "Face."
