1. Iron Man

Iron Man is the movie that started the MCU as we know it, and despite being released in 2008, Tony Stark's origin story is just as exhilarating to watch now as it was the first time. The stakes may have been lower then, but Tony and his Iron Man suit changed the superhero movie game for good, and for that, we'll love him 3,000 forever.

2. Iron Man 2

While the second Iron Man movie suffers from having too many villains, it's still full of important moments, like the introduction of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. It also proved that Marvel wasn't kidding about creating an interconnected universe of movies as the Avengers begin to take shape.

3. Thor

Haven't watched the first Thor in a while? Then it's time to queue it up, because between the introduction of Loki, and Thor's coffee-cup smashing hilarity, this origin story is a blast. And because she never gets enough credit for how good she is in this movie: a special shout-out to Kat Dennings as Jane Foster's best pal Darcy, who steals every scene she's in.

4. Captain America: The First Avenger

Witness Steve Rogers pull off the ultimate glow up as he goes from scrawny Brooklyn kid to Captain America in literally seconds. This '40s set origin story also includes Steve's one true love, the kick butt Peggy Carter, who we still want to see more of. (How about an Agent Carter season three, Disney+?)

6. Iron Man 3

7. Thor: The Dark World

There's a whole lot of Asgard action in this Thor follow-up as Jane becomes the host for an ancient weapon called the Aether. This leads to an awkward reunion with her god boyfriend Thor, and an unexpected team-up with the always mischeivous Loki.

8. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Three words: the lift scene. Watching Captain America take down Hydra agents in such close quarters is one of cinema's coolest moments. But to be fair, there's nothing about this spy thriller/superhero movie that doesn't delight us.

9. Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy took the MCU to space, and the result was a wonderfully weird, hilarious, and touching story about a found family of rag-tag not-quite good guys. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot aren't your typical heroes, but that's exactly why they make such a great team.

10. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Ultron is one of the MCU's more interesting villains. As Tony's creation, the A.I. possesses a keen sense of how to toy with our heroes, and as a result, the team that saved New York begins to fracture in this follow-up to the 2012 Avengers.

11. Ant-Man

Paul Rudd's first time suiting up as Ant-Man is chock full of cool sight gags and "how did they pull that off?" special effects moments. But what really makes this movie a standout is Scott Lang's bond with his daughter.

12. Captain America: Civil War

No one wants to see the heroes of the MCU at odds. However, having Spider-Man swing into the Marvel universe in the middle of a huge fight scene almost made all of the strife worth it.

13. Doctor Strange

Once you get past the weirdness of Benedict Cumberbatch using an American accent, Doctor Strange is an intriguing and visually boundary-pushing film. And hey, as far as heroes go, a doctor/sorcerer is pretty hard to beat.

14. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

The Guardians return for a second movie that takes on Star-Lord's (totally justified) daddy issues. With another rocking soundtrack and a surprisingly moving Rocket Raccoon and Yondu subplot, this is a worthy followup to the original.

15. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok is hands down the most thrilling Thor movie. It's just one long, action-packed space adventure overflowing with side characters that challenge Thor's golden boy persona in all the best ways.

16. Captain Marvel

It took more than a decade, but in 2019, Marvel finally released their first solo female-led superhero movie. And yes, Captain Marvel was worth the wait thanks to a confident performance by Brie Larson and one scene-stealing cat.

17. Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame is easily the most ambitious superhero movie to date. Not only does it bring together every hero in the MCU, it's also daring in the way it brings some heroes stories to an end, while setting the stage for a whole new era of Marvel goodness to come.
