The Reader takes place in postwar Germany, where a teen named Michael Berg has a secret affair with Hanna Schmitz (Kate Winslet), a woman much older than him. When she mysteriously disappears, he's left heartbroken without any answers until, years later, the now-law student finds out some shocking truths about her past.
