The characters in "On My Block" are significantly younger than Ross, Rachel, Chandler, and the rest of the "Friends" crew, but the show's core is still very similar: it follows a group of friends coming of age in South Central Los Angeles. Much like "Friends", each character has their own dreams and passions, and their deep friendships grow and transform throughout its four-season run. But where "Friends" fell short in its lack of diversity — it starred nearly all white people throughout its 10-season run, despite taking place in New York City in the '90s — "On My Block"'s cast of Latine characters is much more true to life.
