Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colours (2015)

A few years ago, NBC got in on the Dolly craze with two heartwarming films based on Parton's childhood, with Alyvia Alyn Lind turning in two great performances as young Dolly. Parton does not actually act in the first film but does serve as the narrator, and it lays the groundwork for the follow-up film in which Parton does appear.

This is another one where you should have the tissues handy because the jumping-off point of the story is the premature birth and subsequent death of Dolly's baby brother, whose baby blankets her mama (Jennifer Nettles) turned into a patchwork coat for young Dolly. Seriously, are you crying yet?

Young Dolly loves that coat until she has to deal with school bullies teasing her about it because her family is so poor, all the while trying to keep her family together because everyone is struggling after the baby's death. It ends on an uplifting note, but it is quite the heartwrencher before then.
