After their sister is murdered by the explosion at the Sea Sprite Motel, the Carr family accuses her fiancé's family, the Maloofs, of taking her engagement ring. Tawny's brothers, Taylor and Tyler, decide to take matters into their own hands and kidnap Daniel Maloof, Alex's older brother, to beat the ring out of him. In revenge, Daniel pays Mexican cartel hitmen, Dodie Mendoza and Alonzo Lozano (who are in Neptune "investigating" the bombing), to kill the brothers for him.
A few days later, Daniel attempts to back out of the deal, but the hitmen have already eliminated Taylor — though they believe they've killed both brothers. In episode six, Tyler returns to Neptune to enact revenge for his murdered brother, shooting Daniel as he's leaving his hotel room. Tyler is subsequently shot by Clarence Wiedman, Daniel's new bodyguard.
