In season 14, Richard fires Vik after he tried to treat patients while high. After he threatens a lawsuit on the hospital, Dr. Bailey hires him back, promising to make him one of the best surgeons if he followed her lead. (He fails.) But briefly after Vik came back, Alex, now interim chief, fired him again. Vik had ignored a patient with a nosebleed, which ultimately led to their death.
