Based on the play of the same name by August Wilson and produced by Denzel Washington, this film revolves around the drama that arises between "Mother of the Blues" Ma Rainey, her white manager, and her band during a tension-filled recording session in 1927 Chicago. Viola Davis stars as the titular Ma Rainey alongside Chadwick Boseman, who plays ambitious trumpeter Levee in his final film appearance.
