Dead Dead Girls by Nekesa Afia is an engrossing noir novel set against the backdrop of the Harlem Renaissance. It's 1926 and Louise Lloyd is doing an excellent job of escaping her past, even though her girlfriend wishes she would confront her demons head on. However, when a girl ends up dead in front of the café where she works, Louise will have no choice but to confront her past if she has any hope of solving the mystery she's stumbled upon.
