Leave it to Saturday Night Live [1] to tackle voter suppression via song and dance. During the Oct. 31 episode, hosted by John Mulaney [2], costars Kenan Thompson, Chris Redd, Ego Nwodim, and Punkie Johnson joined forces in a musical number that cleverly highlights the issue. The skit features their funky fresh characters facing obstacle after obstacle as they try to find a polling station. After learning that a handful of their local sites have closed, they dance down a highway and finally find an open station. Unfortunately, there's a three-hour line and a gun-toting man — a reference to real-life far-right groups that plan to intimidate voters on Election Day [3].

Not only is the sketch inspired by The Whispers' 1983 hit "Keep On Lovin' Me," [4] but it also seems to be a nod to the Stroll to the Polls [5] initiative led by historically Black sororities [6]. The project encourages voters to hold their friends accountable [7] at the polls, making sure they submit their election selections on or before Nov. 3 [8].
