Here's Everything We Know So Far About the Film Adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing

One of the most popular murder mysteries of the last two years is coming to the big screen! Reese Witherspoon — goddess and champion of bringing women-created books, film, and TV to the masses — and her production company, Hello Sunshine, are making a film version of Where the Crawdads Sing. The movie is based on the September 2018 Reese's Book Club pick of the same name by Delia Owens. Reese has gushed, "I can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end." Now we get to experience Where the Crawdads Sing all over again in a new way. Based on Reese's previous book-to-screen adaptations like Big Little Lies, Wild, and Little Fires Everywhere, we know this new movie is going to be amazing. Who Is in the Cast of Where the Crawdads Sing?

Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to play Kya Clark in Where The Crawdads Sing. Edgar-Jones is best known for her role as Marianne on Normal People, another book-to-movie adaptation about two high-school kids from Ireland who form a secret bond and, later, fall in love when they go to the same college. Edgar-Jones also starred in the TV movie Albion and the show Cold Feet. Currently, no other cast members have been announced yet.

Where the Crawdads Sing is being adapted to film by screenwriter Lucy Alibar, who wrote Beasts of the Southern Wild. Olivia Newman, who wrote and directed the Netflix movie First Match, will direct Where the Crawdads Sing. Finally, Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter are producing the film via their production company, Hello Sunshine, for 3000 Pictures, Sony's literary-minded feature label.

As of now, there is no official release date for Where the Crawdads Sing. It's currently in preproduction, but with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it's not clear when it will be released.
