Janelle Monáe

In the past, Janelle Monáe has always been known for her structured and stylish suits and predominately black-and-white ensemble, but this year the singer has been adding splashes of colour to her scheme, as well as some more feminine pieces, since she no longer feels the need to hide herself behind the "protective armor" of androgynous outfits. As she explained to Rolling Stone, she used to feel as though she didn't look the way that a black female artist should, and her fashion choices "had to do with the fear of being judged." Rather than armor, she uses her clothes now to make a statement, and she's definitely afraid to be exactly who she is anymore.
