I'm a Trainer, and These Are the 4 Fitness Gadgets I Can't Live Without

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you'll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

I'm definitely someone who is willing to try anything (well, almost anything), to optimise my health and performance. I'm not too big on herbs and nootropics, yet, but I do love science-backed fitness technology.

As a fitness editor, I've had the privilege to test out a variety of gadgets and ahead, you'll find the gadgets that have my stamp of approval (disclaimer: these were all gifted). From meditation to massage devices, these are the gadgets that power me through my workouts and everything else in between, and keep me feeling and performing my best. Check them out ahead.

1. Whoop 3.0 Performance Strap

I am obsessed with my Whoop 3.0 Performance Strap ($288 for a 12-month membership) and cannot leave my apartment without it. The Whoop strap measures your strain (how hard your body is working) during workouts and also tracks your sleep performance.

I love the sleep feature because it tells you how many hours of sleep you need based on your fitness goals, how you recovered, and how many hours you slept that night. It also lets you know the level of physical activity your body will be able to handle the following day. For example, if you only got five hours of sleep, it would recommend a light-impact workout or a recovery day over a high-intensity workout.

The strap also tracks how your body is adapting to the workouts you do and provides insight on whether or not you should scale back or progress the intensity of your workouts.

2. PowerDot 2.0 Smart Electric Muscle Stimulator

The PowerDot 2.0 Smart Electric Muscle Stimulator ($349) is a must-have gadget if you work out all the time. It's a portable electric muscle stimulation device that can be used for muscle activation and post-workout recovery.

I like this device because you control everything through an app and because it's foolproof to work. All you have to do is choose the body part you want to focus on and how long you want your session to be.

3. Muse 2: The Brain Sensing Headband

With everything I've got going on, it's a challenge to carve out time to take care of my mental and physical health. About three months ago, I began experimenting with meditation to help prepare for my day, relax, and breathe. I wasn't sure how I felt about the Muse 2 Brain Sensing Headband ($250) at first, but it's quickly become one of my go-to gadgets.

As you meditate, the app provides real-time feedback about how you're doing. If your mind is wandering (the headband tracks your brain electrical activity by measuring your brainwaves) it will provide an audio notification to help you refocus which I find to be extremely helpful.

At the end of each session, you can see your meditation data and see how your focus changed throughout the session. It also tells you how many minutes were spent in the active (wandering attention), neutral (your mind is in a natural resting state), and calm (deep focus on breath) states.

If you're like me and sometimes struggle to stay focussed while meditating, I definitely recommending testing this headband out.

4. Hyperice Hypervolt Portable Massage Device

I use the Hyperice Hypervolt Portable Massage Device ($349, originally $375) pretty much every day, and it leaves my muscles feeling so good afterward.

I foam roll a lot, but I feel like the Hypervolt is able to really target specific muscles that are sore or tight. I like that you can control the intensity of the massager, which is great for the days when I'm really sore. The Hypervolt device also comes with four interchangeable attachments which I really like because they hit my muscles differently.
