Talk about softball royalty. Mendoza (centre in the photo above), a star outfielder known for her hitting prowess, roomed with then-up-and-comer Osterman during their time with USA Softball, and Osterman said Mendoza was one of her favourite players on the team during a post-Olympics interview in 2004. Another fun fact? Mendoza, now a baseball analyst with ESPN, is in Tokyo for the 2021 Games, too, covering the Olympic softball tournament.
