Tarot cards are a great way to practice spiritual self-care. But if you're new to the world of divination, you might be a bit overwhelmed with the many beautiful tarot decks available to help you on your spiritual journey. Before you invest in the first tarot deck you find, we've got one of the best guides in the business — modern-day mystic, witch, and intuitive healer Jade Like The Stone — to recommend five of her favourite tarot decks and why they are great for witches of varying levels of experience.

Jade Mordente started her spiritual journey in childhood and always had an awareness for energy. She would often see, hear, and feel spirit in her teen years and wondered what was going on. After meeting with a therapist, who was also a psychic medium, everything started to make sense, and Jade realised that her gift was very much a real and special thing. "She took me under her wing," Mordente told POPSUGAR. "This was my introduction to crystals, meditation, and holistic wellness, and over a three-year period, I began to feel more and more understood."

"Back then, however, all I could focus on was a career in fashion," she continued. "So the crystals were pushed to one side as I graduated from a Scottish fashion school, moved to London, and slowly began to build a career. By 2020, after seven years in the industry, I felt burnt out, tired, and hopeless. Having been diagnosed with Complex-PTSD four years prior, I had been steadily coming back into my spiritual practices and leaning on them when times were tough. I used Tarot cards, spells, and eventually Reiki to holistically heal the inner turmoil and mental health issues I was facing. As things in my career progressed, this sense of fulfilment I was seeking was still nowhere to be found, and I was relying heavily on my holistic practices to keep me afloat — so I knew something had to change."

"With my Reiki training under my belt, and friends who were regularly coming to me for crystal advice and readings, my partner and I took a huge leap of faith in the summer of 2020. We gave up our jobs in the industry and moved to Edinburgh. I launched my business, Jade Like The Stone, and began working as a full time holistic healer. The heart of my practice is supporting womxn's journey to mental, physical, and spiritual wellness through holistic healing — making spirituality accessible for all and a part of everyday wellness. My own experiences with trauma showed me how much spirituality could be an accessible tool in my healing journey, and now I hope to give people the knowledge and support to add it to their self-care toolbox, too."

The Rider Waite Tarot Deck

"For centuries, Tarot has drawn people to its magic and mystery," said Mordente. "It has an extensive and complicated history, but in every corner of the world it has been used as a tool for divination and fortune-telling. The classic Rider Waite Deck, published in 1909, certainly wasn't the first to be created, yet has held its place as the most iconic since its release. The reason why it changed the game? It was the first Tarot deck to feature human figures in the artwork. Its creators evolved the concept of Tarot reading to new dimensions by developing unique characters and personalities throughout the cards with depth and detail; keeping it rich in symbolism and divided into the Major and Minor Arcana. Being so illustrative, the Rider Waite is a go-to tool for those starting out on their Tarot journey, and is known and loved by readers globally."

"We can harness the feminine energy and ancient cosmic wisdom of the Moon to better understand the ever-changing ebbs and flows of our lives," said Mordente. "She influences us, just as she influences the tides, and each part of her eight-phase cycle has a powerful effect on our being. When we are aligned to her magical flow, we can cultivate a better understanding of both ourselves and the world around us, and that's where Yasmin Boland's Moonology Oracle Deck comes in. See this as the ultimate guide to tapping into the powers of lunar energy. Each card is beautifully illustrated and abundant in messages — which allows the desired space for interpretation, too. Suitable for all levels and experiences, regular practice with this deck will fire up your intuition to help you create, plan, and predict what the future holds."

The Painted Tarot by Sophie McKay Knight

"Scottish artist Sophie has been painting the Tarot since 2018, and has now collated all of her work into a 78-card deck," said Mordente. "Influenced by the structure of the classic Rider Waite, but with her own unique characters and details, The Painted Tarot is a beautiful and abstract journey which tells its very own story. Each of the womxn featured in the artwork bring their own energy to the reading, which can be explored by the reader in depth. Suitable for more advanced readers who are ready to fire up their intuition and take things up a notch."
