Pride Month is finally here, and with it comes a celebration of love, acceptance, and individual expression. It's also a time to uplift and support those in the queer community — although we should already be doing that every single day of the year. There are a handful of amazing ways to get involved and give back, and one is by donating to charities and organisations that serve the queer community. Whether you identify as a queer person or as a passionate ally, June is the perfect time to give your time, money, and/or resources to groups that need it. And by learning more about these organisations during Pride, you can then continue to support them year-round.

1. The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organisation for LGBTQ+ young people, and it offers life-saving programs and services to LGBTQ+ youth that create safe, accepting, and inclusive environments. There are crisis intervention numbers to call and text, as well as suicide prevention trainings and resources.

2. Sylvia Rivera Law Project

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project provides free legal services and works to guarantee that people are able to self-determine their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race and without facing harassment, discrimination, or violence. The organisation strives for racial, social, and economic justice for all and seeks to increase the visibility of minority groups.

3. Trans Lifeline

The first-ever crisis hotline for trans people, Trans Lifeline provides emotional and financial support to those in need. The nonprofit is for the trans community, by the trans community, and works to connect trans people to their communities as well as give them the support and resources they deserve.

4. The Marsha P. Johnson Institute

An activist, self-identified drag queen, performer, and prominent figure in the Stonewall uprising in 1969, Marsha P. Johnson protected and defended the human rights of Black transgender people before her death in 1992. The Marsha P. Johnson Institute is a community of people who are working toward developing transformative leadership and ensuring people are free to be themselves.

5. OutRight Action International

OutRight Action International defends the human rights of LGBTQ+ people around the world. The nonprofit works alongside individuals to create a lasting change for those in the community and strives to create a better future for all.

6. Centre for Black Equity

The Centre for Black Equity works to promote a multinational LGBTQ+ network that improves social, economic, and health opportunities for Black people. The LGBTQ Freedom Fund is an organisation that pays the bail of individuals in US jails and immigration facilities. It works to fight the problem of mass incarceration of LGBTQ+ people and helps to mobilize the public and policymakers on the issue.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, its main goal is to ensure that all LGBTQ+ people are treated as full and equal citizens. The organisation worked to get Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in office, and now it is striving to pass the Equality Act through Congress.
