Victoria Beckham graced the red carpet at the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards in London on Tuesday in a svelte black dress. The singer-turned-designer was sans her husband, David, but brought along another Mr. Beckham: her handsome teenage son, Brooklyn. The photogenic mother and son duo posed for photos on the red carpet together. Brooklyn grinned, while his mom maintained her signature smoldering look. Cate Blanchett, Olivia Munn, and Tom Ford were also at the event. Click through to see all the stars at the magazine's annual celebration!
When we originally watched the Blue Jasmine trailer, we wondered, "Is this 2013's most fashionable film?" And that was before we read Cate Blanchett's interview in Harper's Bazaar UK. In her recent sit-down, the actress revealed how costume designer Suzy Benzinger wrangled a designer wardrobe within the film's $35,000 (£22,000) budget. "She pulled in a lot of favours," Cate revealed. One noteworthy favour? "The Hermès bag I was carrying was worth more than her whole budget, and there I was, throwing it on the sidewalk again and again. I felt her blood pressure go up every time it hit the pavement. . . . I think I borrowed the PR girl's bag, but I didn't find that out until I'd thrown it on the sidewalk for the seventh time."
That the film was so stylish in the first place, though, shouldn't really be a surprise, coming from the man who launched the Annie Hall aesthetic. Blue Jasmine's story is centered on a once-posh (read: designer-outfitted) leading lady who's had a recent fall from grace. Not only that, but also bolstering the flick's fashion credentials is the leading lady, certifiable designer darling Cate. So when she and Woody Allen teamed up for their latest movie, the results were nothing short of fashion-forward.
The first style nod came from Chanel. The brand announced that the jacket worn throughout the beginning of the film's trailer (above) is indeed the label's. Not only is it a Karl Lagerfeld design, but it's also created specially for the film and paired with costume jewellery from the house. Of the collaboration, costume designer Suzy Benzinger told Lucky that when she asked Lagerfeld to contribute, he simply said, "For Cate, I'd do anything."
And that's not the only label love: in a closer watch of the trailer, we spotted a monogrammed Louis Vuitton Speedy (at the 0:08 mark), a silver-buckled Hermès belt (0:30), and a tan Birkin (1:02). Scroll down to see which other notable designer made for stylish product placement.
Milan Fashion Week is under way in Italy right now, and the stars are starting to filter into one of Europe's most stylish destinations. Blake Lively popped up at the Gucci Spring '14 fashion show on Wednesday wearing a stunning mustard dress, while Kate Moss went for a black look at a Stuart Weitzman event on Thursday. Meanwhile, Selena Gomez rocked a very different look when she arrived at the Versace presentation on Friday. They aren't the only stars that are flooding into Milan, Freida Pinto, Cate Blanchett, and Cara Delevingne have also made pit stops in Italy. Be sure to check back for more celebrities in Milan as they come in!
Blake Lively and Cate Blanchett joined up last night to attend the Beauty in Wonderland event during Milan Fashion Week. Both actresses are in town to attend the stylish week in Italy, with Blake attending the Gucci fashion show with Vogue's Anna Wintour on Wednesday. The former Gossip Girl star wore Gucci again for last night's bash, while Cate opted for a feathered look. While attending the beauty-focused event, Cate joked about her upcoming role in Cinderella, which she is set to start filming very soon, saying, "Everyone's saying it's the ugly stepmother, and I say, 'Ugly doesn't come into my contract. It's the wicked stepmother.'" Cate has another big project on the horizon as she is expected to make her directorial debut in the upcoming flick The Dinner.
While some celebrities are attending the Venice Film Festival in Italy, other stars like Cate Blanchett and Channing Tatum have headed to France for the Deauville American Film Festival. Featuring American cinema and focusing on American directors, the weeklong festival has been around since 1975. This year, Channing walked the red carpet alongside his White House Down costar Jamie Foxx, Cate attended the Blue Jasmine premiere, and Michael Douglas made an appearance for Behind the Candelabra.
Earlier this week, Jamie spoke at the Lincoln Memorial to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. In his speech, he discussed progress and named the celebrities who should be today's civil rights leaders, including himself, Jay Z, Kanye West, and Alicia Keys.
We couldn't be more thrilled that Cate Blanchett is back in the spotlight as she promotes her new Woody Allen flick Blue Jasmine. So far she's given us a beautiful pink Balenciaga that's worth seeing from all angles and a black-and-white Alexander McQueen gown, but there's so many more amazing red carpet moments from the great Cate. In honour of her new movie release, we're looking back on Cate Blanchett's most fashion-forward red carpet moments of all time. True, they can't be re-created, but they sure are inspiring.
Today in Los Angeles, Cate Blanchett walked the red carpet looking ultra stylish in a black and white Alexander McQueen dress, Christian Louboutin heels and a Roger Vivier bag for the premiere of her latest movie Blue Jasmine. However, her slicky, deep side-parted hairstyle and bold red lipstick that she paired with defined eyes and punchy, pink cheeks is really what stood out. Shop everything you need to recreate her makeup look here and leave a comment to let me know what you think of her simple, yet traffic stopping beauty style.
By all means, take a moment to take in Cate Blanchett's pretty pink Balenciaga gown at last night's Blue Jasmine premiere — but it would be a shame not to zoom right in on the details. Cate indulges our appetite for high fashion with her every appearance on the red carpet, bringing us regal McQueen one moment, a space-age-feeling Armani the next. But for last night's NYC film screening at the Museum of Modern Art, her frothy Balenciaga.Edition ensemble was both breathtaking and wonderfully girlie — a piece of art in its own right.
She made an entrance in the blush pink gazar cape and hand-embroidered dress; as for the details, she added sparkle to the look with ladylike Van Cleef & Arpels earrings and a cocktail ring, while a pair of Balenciaga heels in the same blush-toned pink provided a perfect finish. But because seeing the details up close is really the best part — keep clicking to see Cate's stunning look from all angles (and see what it looks like when the cape comes off!).
Miranda Kerr returned to the runway to model the new line of uniforms for Australian airline Qantas in Sydney today. She showed off two fashion-forward ensembles fulfilling her duties as a global ambassador for the airline. It appeared that Miranda was proud to be a part of the event in her native Australia, as she shared photos on her Instagram account, saying, "Congratulations Qantas airways and team. I still call Australia home." Also there to get a peek at the airline's new look was fellow Aussie Cate Blanchett, along with Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.
Miranda's ambassadorship to Qantas is just one of her many appointments, along with being the face — and owner — of the Kora Organics line and heading up a new fashion campaign for the clothing line Mango. However, last week, Miranda made headlines for speculation surrounding her role as a Victoria's Secret Angel when news broke that her $1 million contract with the brand may not be renewed. In fact, she confirmed a change in her relationship with Victoria's Secret today, saying, "I've been modeling since I was 13. I'm now entering a new phase in my life. I have felt this coming since my son was born and, after I became a mother, I realized I needed to prioritize my time."
With the flip of a brush, a blow dryer and some product, you can turn any old ponytail into a chic red carpet look. Take Cate Blanchett's beauty style last night for example. In Sydney, she arrived to the AACTA Awards in a red sequin Armani Privé gown that she paired with funky black earrings that she was able to show off with her sweet updo. Here's how you can create her look at home in three easy steps that shouldn't take you longer than five minutes:
- Step 1: Tease the crown of your hair with a comb, and then spray a bit of hairspray at the roots for hold. Brush back gently and gather hair at the nape of the neck in a low ponytail leaving your fringe free. Secure with an elastic.
- Step 2: Dampen your fringe with a spot of water and spritz with a styling spray. Next, use a small, round boar-bristle brush and roll fringe outwards towards your ear. Blow dry on a hot setting and then use the cool shot feature on your dryer to set the roll.
- Step 3: Spray all over with hairspray — and voila — you're red carpet ready in a flash!
