What's a newly created duchess to do? During her visit to Ottawa, Kate Windsor (née Middleton) needed a hairstyle that was formal enough for a state visit, but was neither too stuffy nor dowdy. So she came up with a compromise straight out of the mullet playbook: business in the front, party in the back.

Her sleek half-updo was simply swept back, but instead of putting the gathered section into a ponytail, Kate worked in pirouettes of hair and cute butterfly clips. To see the full hairstyle up close and get tips for getting a similar look on your own, just keep reading.

Over the weekend in the jet-set Hamptons beach area of New York, comedienne Chelsea Handler attended a magazine party looking laid back in a long, floral dress sans makeup and with unkempt hair. I love the look of beach waves, especially when you're actually at the beach, and with the hot weather that New York is having, it's no wonder Chelsea opted for an easy, non-blow-dry style. At the 2011 Cannes Film Festival premiere for Sleeping Beauty, Diane Kruger debuted what may be her most innovative hairstyle yet: a textured, tousled plait that was part fishtail braid, part pin curl, and 100 percent cool.

To get the look, start by spritzing a texturizing spray into dry hair. Leave out sections of hair in both the front and on top, braiding the back into a loose side braid.

Allow some of the front layers to hang freely, incorporating a few of these strands into braids that flow to the back, using bobby pins conspicuously to secure. Meanwhile, bring sections of hair from the top into the back of the style, braiding some pieces, while randomly bobby-pinning others to create a free-form shape. See a full circular view Diane's look now.
