The Tattooist Behind Lady Gaga's Latest Ink Walks Us Through the Coolest Summer Trends

Not everyone has the chutzpah — or, frankly, the confidence — to strut down the Met Gala pink carpet in glitter lingerie like Lady Gaga, but you can get a cool new tattoo like her.

Daniel Winter, who's inked everyone from Gaga to Demi Lovato to John Legend, has a special brand of body art that's made him a go-to in Hollywood. "My tattoo style is light, soft, and delicately sharp," he said. "It's the polar opposite of what most traditional styles are out there due to its delicate touch and attention to the minimal design."

So, what does the man with the magic touch recommend you get this Summer? Winter breaks down the biggest tattoo trends worth the A-list buzz ahead.

There's a reason the rose made its way onto the traditional sailor tattoo lineup: "It's an iconic and simple tattoo," Winter said. But the trend he's seeing most recently is a little more delicate and, in some cases, meaningful.

One of his personal favourites in particular is the rose tattoo he inked on Demi Lovato's index finger (shown here). "The meaning behind it was powerful. It's a personal tattoo, and I can't share much, but it means a lot to her and it means a lot to me as well."

Perhaps the most requested tattoo, Winter said, is his personalized, handwritten script. "Scripts have this human touch that's powerfully worded," he said. "I love doing these because it's so personal to the client and usually means something so powerful to them."

Take Lady Gaga's "La Vie en Rose" back tattoo, which is one of the pieces of work he's most proud of: "We designed it together, and the collaboration was truly special," Winter said. Of course, script tattoos can also be small and dainty.

Another big theme picking up steam? "Tree tattoos are delicate and free," Winter said. "Anything having to do with nature symbolizes being grounded. Nature tattoos are great, as they really just feel very natural on the skin."

Some of our favourites? Palm trees, cactus designs, and your traditional oak trees.
