2005: Blake and Miranda first met in passing in 2005 before being paired together to sing David Frizzell and Shelly West's hit "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma" at the 2005 CMT 100 Greatest Duets special. Their chemistry was undeniable, but Blake was married, and the two were just friends. "I've never had that kind of experience with anybody," Blake told VH1's Behind the Music at a later date. "I was a married guy, you know? Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage."
2006: The country singers began their romance in 2006 after Blake divorced his first wife, Kaynette Williams, in February of that year. The couple kept their romance out of the limelight in the beginning and kept themselves busy on the road, only starting to really date after the divorce was official.
2007: The couple made their public debut as a couple at the CMT Music Awards in Spring 2007.
