Prior to his 1997 murder, Versace was a close friend of Diana's, often making up the third part of the trio that included her and Elton John. Diana had famously posed for Harper's Bazaar wearing one of the designer's gowns, and they had remained friends, despite a brief spat over some photos of her included in a book. She attended his funeral in Milan with John, sitting together to comfort one another.
Versace's death reportedly sparked an eerie premonition in Diana. The Express reported that, after hearing of Versace's murder, she wondered if the same fate would befall her.
"Dodi [Fayed]'s bodyguard Lee Sansum found her on the deck early in the morning, gazing out to sea. He said she asked him: 'Do you think they'll do that to me?'" Diana and her boyfriend Fayed were killed in a car crash less than two weeks later.
