Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell

As one of the biggest fashion icons of her era, Princess Diana mingled with plenty of supermodels, including Christy and Naomi. She was close enough to them, in fact, to enlist their help (along with Claudia Schiffer) to play a birthday prank on her son William.

In the ITV documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, the prince described how his mother surprised him as a teenager by inviting the trio of supermodels he had a crush on to the palace so he could meet them.

"When I came home from school [she organised] to have [the models] waiting at the top of the stairs. I was probably a 12- or 13-year-old boy who had posters of them on his wall. And I went bright red and didn't quite know what to say and sort of fumbled. I think I pretty much fell down the stairs on the way up. I was completely and utterly sort of awestruck."
