Theroux was once romantically linked to artist and director Petra Collins. Just a few days before he and Aniston announced their separation in February 2018, the actor raised eyebrows by tagging Collins in an Instagram post. After news of Theroux and Aniston's breakup went public, the Daily Mail reported that March that Theroux had officially moved on with Collins.
In May 2018, Theroux and Collins were reportedly seen attending a pre-party for the Met Gala together, People reported, and were spotted grabbing lunch with their friends Paul Rudd, Rooney Mara, and Selena Gomez that same weekend. The dating rumours between Theroux and Collins soon died down, however, after he was linked to another major celebrity.
