A Hawkeye Series Joins the Exciting List of Marvel Shows on Disney's New Streaming Site

If you thought the adventures of our favourite Avengers could be contained to the big screen, you thought wrong, buddy! Back in 2018, Disney announced its plans to launch a brand-new streaming service called Disney+, and since then it's been steadily adding a number of limited series centreed on popular characters from the MCU. Not only will the service have original Marvel shows, but it'll also exclusively house Marvel films instead of Netflix, starting with Captain Marvel, which premiered on March 8.

Subscribers to the service will get the classic blockbuster MCU films along with their TV counterparts, which Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Screen Rant will be directly intertwined with the events from the movie side of the franchise. It's a different approach from other Marvel TV shows that have so far functioned as more of side stories to the MCU thus far. Freeform's Cloak & Dagger, ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Netflix's now-defunct Defender series are rarely acknowledged by their movie counterparts, and thus, are limited to their own worlds. These Disney+ show will directly tie in with the films and be integrated in MCU's story-building.

Out of the few rumoured series, only one show has been officially announced with the featured actor acknowledging the upcoming project. Nonetheless, we're super excited for all these series and what they could add to the MCU lore. Check them out ahead!

1. A Limited Series About Hawkeye

A Hawkeye standalone film was first rumoured to be in development back in June 2018 by MCU Cosmic. On April 10, Variety reported that, according to its sources, Disney was working on an adventure series following Clint Barton passing the torch to Kate Bishop, who takes up the Hawkeye mantle in Marvel Comics.

This ties into footage recently seen in the Avengers: Endgame trailer that shows Clint teaching a young girl (who fans assume is his daughter) archery before the Snap. Kate is also a member of the Young Avengers, a team that has been hinted to be appearing in the MCU sometime in the future.

2. The Vision and Scarlet Witch

A series centreed on Scarlet Witch, with actress Elizabeth Olsen attached to star, was rumoured to be in the works in September 2018. In January 2019, The Hollywood Reporter revealed the show, formally dubbed The Vision and Scarlet Witch, landed a writer and showrunner: Jac Schaeffer, one of the writers behind Captain Marvel. Schaffer has been tapped to run point on the series and will pen the pilot and executive produce.

The series — which gets its name from two Marvel Comics series from the '80s — will focus on the adventures of Scarlet Witch and Vision, with Olsen and Paul Bettany to reprise the roles they originated on the big screen.

3. Loki

Loki is currently the only show that has been confirmed by Marvel and the titular character's actor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will follow Loki as the trickster and shape-shifter pops up throughout human history as an unlikely influencer on historical events. Tom Hiddleston confirmed his involvement with the series with a post to his Instagram page. "Loki. More stories to tell. More mischief to make. More to come," he wrote.

So far the series has landed Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron to write the pilot, act as show creator, and executive produce the series.
