A girls' high school step team in inner-city Baltimore is followed by director Amanda Lipitz as they compete and strive to achieve their goal of attending college. And for many of the girls, going to college would make them the first in their families to receive higher education. The documentary also interlaces the effects of social unrest and racial tensions that were flaring up around the time — the Black Lives Matter movement, police brutality against black Americans, etc. But no matter how tough things get, the team sticks together and steps up.
