When Clay goes to the Walker home to ask Ani to the homecoming dance, he sees Bryce, who tells him that Ani isn't the kind of girl she appears to be, and in his rage, Clay foolishly threatens to kill him. At the homecoming game, Clay sees Bryce kiss Ani, and as a result, Clay sends a number of menacing texts to Bryce. When Clay confronts Ani about the kiss, she lies and says that Bryce misread her intentions.
