In the aftermath of World War II, two veterans — one black and one white — return to rural Mississippi, where they and their families struggle with lingering trauma from the war, racism, and economic turmoil. Although the two men bond over their shared experiences in the war, the racism in their community threatens both of them with horrible consequences.
