A Gentleman In Moscow by Amor Towles

Amor Towles's second book, A Gentleman in Moscow, has been on my "to read" list for months now, but I only just picked it up a week before London went into lockdown. I didn't fully know what the book was about before diving in, so the fact that it's about a Russian aristocrat sentenced to house arrest at the luxury hotel he's been living in — not able to venture outside, not even for exercise or groceries — is quite timely subject matter. The main character's resilience and positive outlook has been inspiring at a time when my normal way of life has been similarly disrupted. Plus, Towles's gorgeous, intricate descriptions of the Metropol Hotel make you feel like you, too, are roaming the halls of the decadent and historic building. — Sophia Panych, content director, POPSUGAR UK
