In a lot of ways, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a romantic comedy that also deconstructs and pokes fun at romantic comedies. It starts off with a classic premise — Rebecca (Rachel Bloom), a high-powered lawyer, bails on her New York job to impulsively follow her teenage crush out to suburban California — but then the show spends just as much time diving into toxic tropes about romance as it does embracing the most swoon-worthy aspects of your favourite comedies. And they do it in song!
