The road leading to Cruise reprising his role was a long one that had dragged out for years. In an interview on "The Graham Norton Show," he told the host how the process unfolded. "For years the studios wanted me to do it and audiences wanted me to do it… And there was just a moment where Jerry Bruckheimer wanted to do it, and he came to me, we were talking about it and just came up with some good ideas," he said. "It was just that moment, I thought 'If I'm gonna ever do this, now's the time.'"
