British Actors in Apple TV+'s The Buccaneers

Meet the Eligible Bachelors of Apple TV+'s "The Buccaneers"

Apple TV+ has just dropped your new favourite obsession. Arriving on the streamer on 8 November, new period drama "The Buccaneers" is about to fill the "Bridgerton"-shaped hole in your life as we wait for season 3. Inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning, unfinished novel by Edith Wharton, the show follows four young women from American high society, who are sent across the pond to secure husbands and titles.

According to an Apple TV+ press release, the arrival of these fun-loving girls kicks off "an Anglo-American culture clash as the land of the stiff upper lip is infiltrated by a refreshing disregard for centuries of tradition." Its central conflict of old and new is also reflected in the show's use of modern language, and a contemporary soundtrack (think Taylor Swift, Boygenius, Gracie Abrams), even though it is set in the 1870s. The first trailer for the show promises sexual tension, elaborate balls, fireworks, as well as the exploration of topics including class structures, women's roles in society, and race. It is aptly soundtracked by Olivia Rodrigo's "All-American Bitch", with the Gen Z star also being rumoured to be debuting new music on the show.

The story has been adapted for television before, most famously in 1995, starring Carla Gugino as Nan St George. However, without an official ending, each version has the space to explore and interpret different possibilities for the central characters' stories, and this iteration is no different.

Playing our central socialites are Kristine Froseth ("The Society"), Alisha Boe ("13 Reasons Why"), Josie Totah ("Jessie"), Imogen Waterhouse ("The Outpost"), who is Suki Waterhouse's sister, Aubri Ibrag, and Mia Threapleton ("I Am Ruth"). But no steamy romance series is complete without its leading men, right? And when the men in question are young, up and coming Brits, playing dashing Dukes, Lords, and hedonistic high society, we will be paying a keen interest. Given that the show had an all-female creative team too, we have high hopes. Read on to find out more about the eligible bachelors of AppleTV+'s "The Buccaneers."

Guy Remmers as Theo, Duke of Tintagel

New on the scene is Bristol-born actor, Guy Remmers, who stars in "The Buccaneers" as Theo, Duke of Tintagel; a marriage suitor for our main heroine, Nan St George. Eagle-eyed fans of the book may notice that Theo seems to be a new character, but he is actually an update to the original Ushant, Duke of Trevenick. The show's creator Katherine Jakeaways said of the change: "I'd say he's the one character actually who we've made more sympathetic than he is in the book and we've made him more of a genuine option for Nan. Because we thought it would be interesting to be not quite clear who we were trying to say was the right man for Nan."

Having spent his early 20s modelling, this is his breakout role – and a breakout for his love life, too. The actor is dating his fellow "The Buccaneers" star, Kristine Froseth, who plays opposite his Duke in the show. Casting Remmers was certainly the way to make this a viable love triangle, as we imagine many fans will be calling for Team Theo.

Matthew Broome as Guy Thwarte

Starring as the other option in the love triangle is Matthew Broome, playing Guy Thwarte, who is positioned as Nan's intellectual equal, and overall soulmate. Thwarte is The Duke of Tintagel's close friend, but things are set to get tense as the pair both vye for the heart of Nan. Broome's charm has a distinct British awkwardness to it, and he is poised to go down in romantic lead history with this role.

Like Remmers, "The Buccaneers" marks Broome's breakout role. In fact, it's his first on-screen professional credit, following a number of roles on stage in plays including "Scandaltown" and "A Comedy of Errors." It's not known if he's single or taken, but we have a feeling his name is about to be catapulted to the spotlight.

Josh Dylan as Lord Richard Marable

Lord Marable's marriage to Conchita Closson is what introduces the girls to a new country, and subsequently a new world, but their marriage is not a happy one.

While his fictional relationship is in shambles, in real life, Dylan has been romantically linked with Anya Chalhotra ("The Witcher") since 2020, so he may not be a bachelor in real life.

For many, this won't be the first time that Dylan's gorgeous blue eyes and golden locks have graced their screens; rather they will have been dreaming about dancing on a boat with him on the Mediterranean since his appearance in "Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!" as he played a young Bill. He also starred in the BBC adaptation of "Noughts + Crosses" as Callum's brother Jude.

Barney Fishwick as Lord James Seadown

Barney Fishwick stars as Lord Seadown, who is the brother to Dylan's Lord Marable, and is the romantic interest for Jinny St George, the sister of Nan. The relationship between the two is one of the happier ones, even if his initial intention is to inherit her father's money. He's a Bingley sort of character as opposed to a Mr Darcy.

Fishwick most recently starred in "Living" alongside British icons such as Billy Nighy, Tom Burke, and Aimee Lou Wood. However, he is best known for his comedy work, which has been across TV, stage and radio, particularly as half of sketch group GIANTS.
