Top Fashion Trends Spring 2019

Want to Know What’s Inside a Fashion Editor’s Shopping Basket Right Now?

New season, new trends! We've partnered with Sloggi to bring you the editor-approved picks you need in your wardrobe, including the brand's new EverFresh underwear.

I often tell people that my job as a style editor is both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing because I essentially shop online all day, every day. But it's a curse because the consequences of that are not so great on my bank account. After all, when you're scouring through the latest launches and buzziest trends available, it's only fair that some of those make their way into your own wardrobe. And right now, my running tally is trends: 8; bank account: 0. The upside for me is that I have the season's most sought-after pieces, while you get a peek into editor-approved items to buy for Spring. Without further ado, here's every noteworthy item to add to your wardrobe, from my shopping cart to yours.

1. Snakeskin Print Midi Skirt

The ubiquitous leopard print midi skirts of 2018 have evolved into something else for 2019: snakeskin print midi skirts. And as someone who was all over last year's trend, I'm fully on board this year. I love how graphic and bold the print on this pleated skirt (£25) is, while still being so easy to style, thanks to the entirely neutral colour palette. Plus, I like how the feminine pleats balance out the edginess of the snakeskin.

2. No BS Underwear

In today's world of overly fussy lingerie and cliché messaging, all I want is straightforward underwear. Which is why I was particularly excited to learn about the new EverFresh launch from Sloggi, an underwear brand known for giving it like it is, with no frills necessary (literally). The pieces feature everything I look for in my knickers — simple, comfortable, and cotton. Plus, they come with the added benefit of moisture-wicking capabilities to keep me cool all day long. The matching crop top (£18) and hipster (£13) are my top picks for a clean look and all day comfort.

3. Western-Inspired Boots

This season, I'm giving my black and white ankle boots a rest and instead opting for nude boots (£89). They're just as easy to wear, but offer a slightly unexpected take on neutrals. I love the on-trend Western-inspired shape of this pair and the pointy toe, which gives the illusion of longer limbs. I already know they'll pair perfectly with my favourite straight-leg jeans (or any jeans for that matter) and breezy dresses and skirts.

4. Faux Leather Cycling Shorts

Leather trench coats and leather blouses are both having a street style moment, but I'm most excited about leather cycling shorts (£78). They're cool and edgy, and surprisingly versatile! I can't wait to dress them down with oversized t-shirts and trainers and dress them up with a sharp blazer and heels.

5. Tortoiseshell-Accent Bag

From woven netting to wooden beads, we've had our fair share of unique bag textures over the last few seasons. This time around, it's all about acrylic. The hard material has made its way from earrings to bags, whether that means a marbleised box clutch or a tortoiseshell chain-handle pouch. My pick? This tortoiseshell handle Staud bucket bag (£333), which is a brand-new take on the brand's beloved silhouette.

6. Baroque Pearl Earrings

The cooler, trendier alternative to your grandmother's pearls, baroque pearl earrings are everywhere right now, and I can't get enough. The imperfect shapes of the pearls are fun and fresh, especially when combined with an asymmetrical setting. These earrings (£210) are like works of art for my ears, and will dress up even the most basic of outfits.

7. Corduroy Jacket

I may be retiring my white teddy coat soon, but that just means I can make way for another white outerwear piece in my rotation. While white leather jackets and white denim jackets are both set to dominate, I'm interested in a different texture this season: corduroy. I like the utility-style cut (another big Spring trend) of this jacket (£130) and can easily imagine it paired with cropped wide-leg trousers. In fact, I can imagine myself in this entire get-up!

8. Belted Swimsuit

There's nothing like shopping for swimwear to make you really excited for warm weather ahead. Belted one-pieces and high-waisted bottoms are set to reign supreme again this season, and I've got my eye on this polka dot swimsuit (£148). Now all I need is a beachside holiday!
