Why We Love Alok: Alok Vaid-Menon is an American poet, performance artist, and LGBTQ+ rights activist. Identifying as gender nonconforming and transfeminine, they have worked to destroy notions of gender-based beauty standards and stress the importance of embracing oneself. They released their inaugural poetry book FEMME IN PUBLIC in 2017 and have presented their work in more than 40 countries at 400 venues.
