In this video on her retirement Miss Val explained, "Two years ago, I talked with our athletic director, and I said, 'I'm ready to move on.' So, last year I started practicing saying the speech that I was going to tell our student athletes. And I practiced the speech for, gosh, six months, and I never was able to get through it. Ever."
