Punch-Drunk Love subverts the romantic comedy genre with a dark touch, pairing Adam Sandler's comic personality with spasms of rage. Sandler depicts a lonely, socially inept business owner who falls prey to a phone-sex-operator scam that leads him into an extortionist's trap. Much to his consternation and delight, he meets a potential love interest during the same time.
