To the surprise of no one, Cara Delevingne brought her A-game to the 2023 Met Gala, wearing an all-white outfit, black leather accessories, and a hairstyle that strayed from her typical long blonde colour. This year's event theme is an homage to the works of late designer Karl Lagerfeld, to whom the model had a close relationship with, so it's no surprise she went above and beyond. (The day before, on 30 April, Delevingne even teased an iconic cosplay of Lagerfeld himself on Instagram, wearing a white feathered wig, oversized aviators, and a pinky-nude lip.)
For the big night, makeup artist Hung Vanngo created a showstopping look for Delevingne, featuring smoked-out eyeshadow and a matte complexion. However, it was hairstylist Danielle Priano who helped the model steal the show with a pastel-coloured wig we couldn't stop staring at. "Looking back at past campaigns [Lagerfield and Delevingne] did together, we were nostalgically inspired by the Chanel Cruise 2013 images of her in different pixie length, coloured wigs," Priano tells POPSUGAR via email. "We decided to modernise these references by creating a cool, shag style wig dyed in an off white, pastel hue to celebrate their history and bring the past to life."
To create the look, after securing Delevingne's natural hair underneath a wig cap, Priano used Professional Hair Labs Ghostbond Classic Wig Adhesive to attach the wig to the cap, then styled the wig using the T3 Micro Switch Kit.
Delevingne made heads turn with last year's Met Gala ensemble with glittery gold body paint covering her chest, arms, hands, and even feet underneath a chic two-piece red silk suit — and this year is no exception. Having worked with Lagerfeld throughout her career and forming a close friendship, including her first ever Chanel show, this Met Gala is a special one for Delevingne.
