Jhené Aiko's latest makeup look is as ethereal as her voice. On Feb. 1, the singer attended a get-together with some friends wearing the "underliner" eye makeup trend accented by strategically-placed crystals.
Opting for an iridescent purple shade, Aiko stayed true to the trend. The liner started from the outer corners of her eyes and extended along the length of her lower-lash line for an upside-down, cat-eye effect. Aside from the addition of gemstones smattered on the inner, outer, and middle parts of her undereye area, which really helped amplify the underliner, the rest of her makeup was kept simple with a peach blush, neutral lip, and satin skin finish.
The underliner look has been seen on many celebrities of late, from Ashley Benson to Joey King and Yara Shahidi. The technique is one of the easiest ways to add some intrigue to your eye makeup while steering away from traditional techniques like smoky eyes, or smudged liner.
While it can be tempting to stick with black eyeliner, choosing a bold colour like purple can take the underliner trend to the next level. We recommend products like the About Face Beauty Line Artist Gel Eyeliner ($13) or the Maybelline Tattoo Studio Eyeliner Pencil ($9), which come in an array of colours that double as a can't-miss fashion statement.
