Lush's Día De Muertos Collection Honours the Mexican Tradition

There are a few things that might come to mind when you think of Día de los Muertos (or Day of the Dead), like the bright floral arrangements, colourful streams of papel picado, and bold skull makeup, for instance. To celebrate the festive holiday, which takes place from 31 Oct. to 2 Nov. and honours the death of loved ones, Lush has created a brand-new Día De Muertos collection to help you get into the spirit.
For the brand, this range is particularly special. Not only does it commemorate Mexican traditions of the holiday, but it was also developed by Co-Create, Lush's seasonal product creation internship. "The program offers staff from every part of the Lush business an opportunity to step into the Lush research and development labs in Poole, UK, and let their imaginations run wild," Michael O'Brien, Co-Create manager, tells POPSUGAR. "Each season, they have an opportunity for their dream products to become a reality and land on shop floors worldwide."
For this collection, the Co-Create cohort collaborated with the Latine community in Lush North America to get an understanding of what everyone wanted from the range. The result is a four-product offering that includes culturally relevant touches like a bath bomb inspired by cempasúchil, a type of marigold flower traditionally used as an offering during Día de los Muertos celebrations, and a bar soap in the shape of pan de muerto, a sweet bread often served during the occasion.
The line will be available to shop on the brand's website and in stores nationwide on 28 Sept. If you can't resist a new Lush collection (relatable), read ahead for all the items you can scoop up just in time for a bathroom reset.

Inspired by the marigold flower, which is said to have been given to the people by the sun god Tonatiuh to honour the dead, this product is scented with fruity buchu, davana, and bergamot oils. Add one to your tub, and you'll be greeted with a freshly scented bath and gorgeous orange water.

Coming in the same scent profile as the bath bomb, this soap is also infused with agave syrup, which acts as a humectant and keeps moisture in the skin. More importantly, it's shaped like a tiny pan de muerto — a traditional baked good that celebrants eat on Día de los Muertos and also bring to the altar to pay homage to their deceased loved ones.
