Megan Thee Stallion's Super Bowl Makeup Fit Right In With the '90s Theme

The 2022 Super Bowl LVI was jam-packed with nods to the '90s, from the star-studded halftime show featuring Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Dr. Dre (and surprise guest 50 Cent) to the beauty looks of spectators like Megan Thee Stallion. She posted a photo on Instagram of her watching the game from a box, and we immediately noticed the rapper's supermodel lip. The '90s-inspired makeup trend features dark (usually brown) lip liner tracing the outer edges of the lips for a bold, high-contrast look. She didn't stop there for her first Super Bowl, either — she and Christina Aguilera both wore matching sleek, high ponytails to round out the '90s aesthetic.

Megan has been one of the celebrities spearheading the makeup look's comeback, having worn it at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Other fans of the lipstick trend include Storm Reid, Maren Morris, and Lizzo.

"The late-'90s version was almost a dark ring of liner without blending, where the lip liner almost looked like a ring around the upper and lower lips," celebrity makeup artist and Catrice Cosmetics ambassador Robert Sesnek previously told POPSUGAR. "The best way to update this trend is better blending and diffusing of the deeper liner shade into the lip colour."
